Oprah's Book Club: Every Book Pick Oprah's Book Club is a book discussion club launched by Oprah Winfrey on The Oprah Winfrey Show on September 17, 1996, with its first pick, The Deep End of the Ocean by Jacquelyn Mitchard. The original club ran monthly through 2002, shifted to a classics-focused "Travelling Library" era (2003–2005), and continued with occasional contemporary picks through 2011. It was relaunched as Oprah's Book Club 2.0 on June 1, 2012, in partnership with OWN and O: The Oprah Magazine, and continues today across OWN, Oprah Daily, the Apple TV+ show, and The Oprah Podcast (with Starbucks). An Oprah selection reliably becomes a bestseller — the "Oprah Effect."
