Terms of Service

Last updated: 2026-05-06

Welcome to ReadingList. These Terms of Service (“Terms”) govern your use of readinglist.school (the “Service”) operated by ReadingList. By accessing or using the Service, you agree to be bound by these Terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the Service.

1. Educational reference, not endorsement

ReadingList aggregates citations to US school reading lists from state DOE websites, College Board AP frameworks, IB subject briefs, Cambridge syllabi, and individual school-district pages. Listing a book on this site is a factual citation of an external curriculum decision, not an endorsement, recommendation, or warranty of age-appropriateness for your specific child or classroom. Always verify against the cited source document for your local context.

2. Data sources and accuracy

Curriculum data is sourced from public state DOE documents, College Board AP frameworks, International Baccalaureate subject briefs, Cambridge International syllabi, and publicly-published school district reading lists. These sources change over time. We make reasonable efforts to keep citations accurate but make no warranty of completeness, currency, or absence of error. Use the cited source document as the authoritative reference if accuracy matters to your decision.

3. Permitted use

You may view, share links to, and reference content for personal, non-commercial educational purposes. You may not:

  • Scrape or systematically extract data from the Service without written permission
  • Reverse-engineer, decompile, or disassemble any part of the Service
  • Use the Service to build a competing product
  • Introduce malware, viruses, or harmful code
  • Attempt to bypass rate limits or access controls
  • Misrepresent the source of content or remove citations

4. Intellectual property

The aggregation, structure, methodology, design, and code of the Service are owned by ReadingList and protected by copyright. The ReadingList name and logo are trademarks. Underlying public-domain factual data (book titles, authors, ISBNs, curriculum citations) remains in the public domain. You may not use the brand or proprietary structure without written permission.

5. Affiliate disclosure

ReadingList is a participant in the Amazon Services LLC Associates Program. We may earn affiliate commissions on qualifying purchases when you click outbound links to Amazon. These commissions help keep the core Service free. Affiliate links are always marked with rel=“sponsored nofollow” and accompanied by an inline disclosure. Library links (WorldCat) and public-domain links (Standard Ebooks, LibriVox) are non-commercial alternatives included alongside affiliate options.

6. Advertising

ReadingList displays advertisements via Google AdSense. Ads are clearly labeled. We do not review or endorse the content of ads. Clicking an ad takes you to a third-party site whose practices are outside our control. See our Privacy Policy for details on advertising cookies and how to opt out.

7. Third-party content and links

The Service contains links to third-party websites and services (state DOE pages, College Board, ETS, school districts, retailers, libraries). We do not control these third parties and are not responsible for their content, accuracy, or practices. Their use is subject to their own terms and privacy policies.

8. No accounts or personal data

ReadingList currently does not require account creation and does not capture email addresses, names, or contact details. The site has no comment sections, login flows, or saved-state features. Visitors are anonymous unless they choose to email us via the contact page.

9. Disclaimer of warranties

THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED “AS IS” AND “AS AVAILABLE” WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EITHER EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, OR NON-INFRINGEMENT. WE DO NOT WARRANT THAT THE SERVICE WILL BE UNINTERRUPTED, ERROR-FREE, OR FREE OF HARMFUL COMPONENTS. WE DO NOT WARRANT THE ACCURACY OR COMPLETENESS OF CURRICULUM DATA — ALWAYS VERIFY WITH CITED SOURCES.

10. Limitation of liability

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, READINGLIST SHALL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES ARISING FROM OR IN CONNECTION WITH YOUR USE OF THE SERVICE. IN NO EVENT SHALL OUR TOTAL LIABILITY EXCEED ONE EURO (€1).

11. Changes to the Service or Terms

We may modify, suspend, or discontinue any part of the Service at any time without notice. We may also update these Terms; when we do we will revise the “Last updated” date at the top of this page. Continued use of the Service after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.

12. Governing law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the Netherlands, without regard to conflict-of-law principles. Any dispute arising under these Terms will be resolved in the courts of the Netherlands.
